Welcome to Reception!

We have two Reception classes; Acorns and Conkers.

Reception Acorns

Our class teacher is Mrs Radcliffe.  We are supported by Mrs Allan and Mrs Harris (am).

Reception Conkers

Our class teacher is Miss Hardaker.  We are supported by Mrs Simmons.

Within the EYFS, learning is categorised into seven areas:

  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development
  • Communication and Language
  • Physical Development
  • Literacy
  • Mathematics
  • Understanding the World
  • Expressive Are & Design

These areas of learning are then broken down into seventeen aspects.  By the end of the Reception year, it is expected that children reach the Early Learning Goal (ELG) for each of these aspects.

In Reception, children learn through a careful balance of child initiated play and adult directed activities.  We encourage children to follow their own interests and explore their own ideas in play.  Alongside this, we have a topic each half term.

Reception Information

Learning Journeys

Your child’s learning Journey is always available for you to look at; you will find them in Reception’s cloakroom.  We value your contributions to your child’s learning journey and love to hear about all the things they have been learning at home.  Please keep sharing these observations with us!

Proud Clouds

‘Proud Clouds’ are available from our cloakroom.  Please feel free to help yourself to one at anytime.  Remember, you can write anything that your child has done at home which has made you feel proud or happy.  These could include learning to ride their bike, writing their name, or receiving a swimming certificate.  We love to hear all about your child’s achievements at home!

Children in Reception undertake daily phonics lessons to support their reading and writing development.  To support their learning, it is essential that they regularly read at home.  Please sign their reading diary whenever you share a book together.  Reading books are changed every Monday so please ensure your child has their book bag at school.  If you would like to change your child’s book more regularly please speak to a member of the Reception team.

Both Reception classes have PE on a Friday morning. Please ensure your child has a named PE kit in school.
