Welcome to Year 2 Aquamarine! Our class teacher is Mrs Hughes, and our teaching assistant is Mrs Nield.

During this half term our topic is ‘Antarctica’.  We will be finding out about this part of the world and comparing it to where we live.  We will be using maps and atlases to find out about Antarctica.  We will move on to find out a famous explorer called Ernest Shackleton and his expedition to Antarctica.

We will be continuing to improve our writing skills.  The children will be asked to write poems, stories and reports.  All children will be heard read at least twice a week, we also have ‘Reading Skills’ lessons where the children are taught to predict, sequence and answer comprehension questions to demonstrate their understanding of what they have read.

In Maths we will be focusing on multiplication and division.  We will begin by using groups to multiply and divide and will be using lots of practical equipment.  We will also be using multiplication and division signs to write our own number sentences.

This is a very important part of the year for us as we will be completing the Key Stage One SAT’s tests. These will take place during May and will form part of the normal classroom routines.  For more information please speak to Mrs Hughes or Miss Ramsay.

Reading books are changed on Mondays and Thursdays.  Please ensure that your child’s reading diary is completed so that we are able to change books on a regular basis.

We will continue to have weekly spelling tests so please practise these each week when your child brings them home.

As the weather is now colder please ensure that your child has a warm coat in school so that they are still able to enjoy their time outside.
