The class teacher in Cedar this year is Mrs Allan and you will also be supported in Year 6 by Mr Holder (Oak class teacher).
For the year 6 children this is your last year in primary school and we have so much to fit in including residential, leavers prom and the Year 6 SATS assessments in May, Although Year 6 is hard work, our aim is to give you some amazing memories to cherish of Carrwood and your friends before you move on to secondary school.
Year 6 have already attended our focus week with IntoUniversity based on Local History and World War 2. We completed lots of fun activities at the TFD centre, as well as going on a trip to the Industrial Museum and to Bradford University where we all graduated with flying colours!
Year 5 will have their Into University trip later in the year and you will also have swimming lessons from the Spring term onwards. We are also planning trips/events for you to enjoy together as a class unit.
As the oldest children in school, we expect you to act like the role models we know you can be!
Our three school rules are:
- Be ready
- Be respectful
- Be safe
Across school, we use Class Dojos as one of our reward systems. If you are following the school rules you will be rewarded with Dojos which can be exchanged for prizes at the ‘Dojo Shop’. The more dojos you have, the better the prizes!
We will also be running class raffles and prizes for students who are showing real effort and resilience. Students who consistently go over and above will be invited to ‘Fantastic Fridays’ with Miss Malt to celebrate your achievements.
Reading
You need to bring your book bags to school every day as you will still be reading with an adult on a regular basis. In Year 6, children will be reading for pleasure by sharing longer novels, so the expectation is that books shouldn’t be changed weekly, only when the book has been finished. Books will be changed on a Monday where necessary.
Throughout the year, we will have three different year group authors. We will find out all about these authors throughout the year and their books will be in our reading corner for us to enjoy.
In the Autumn term, our author is Michael Morpurgo. He has written lots of stories including War Horse, the Butterfly Lion, and Kensuke’s Kingdom.
In Spring, our author is Onjali Rauf. She has written stories such as The Boy at the Back of the Class, The Lion Above the Door, and The Night Bus Hero.
In Summer, our author is Katherine Rundell. Her stories include The Explorer, The Good Thieves and The Wolf Wilder.
P.E
Our PE lessons are on Mondays (indoor) and Wednesdays (outdoor) . This year you must arrive at school in your uniform and bring a PE kit with you. You will be given time in the day to get changed into your kit.
Our school PE kit is as follows:
- Plain black shorts
- Plain white t-shirt
- Plain black tracksuit/hoody for outdoor PE
- Pumps or trainers
Should you not have an appropriate PE kit with you in school, (as listed above) you will be required to wear school issued kit for your lesson.
