RE

DREAM BIG!

Believe, Aspire, Achieve

Religious Education at Carrwood Primary School

RE is an exciting and stimulating subject that enables pupils to share their own experiences, to explore their identity and to develop an understanding of others.  The RE curriculum contributes to our pupils’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development.  It enables them to develop tolerance and respect for others and builds community cohesion. Pupils are given the opportunity to explore the commonalities and differences between and within faiths and other worldviews as well as developing an understanding of their own beliefs and those of others.

At Carrwood, we cover the aims of the Believing and Belonging Agreed Syllabus for West Yorkshire through the Discovery RE scheme of work, which has been adapted to fit the needs of our pupils.  Units of work are planned, following a four-step enquiry approach of engagement, investigation, evaluation and expression.  The curriculum covers the six world faiths: Christianity, Buddhism, Hinduism, Islam, Judaism and Sikhism, as well as non-faith views.  The lessons are engaging, promote British values, critical thinking and evaluation skills.  RE sits alongside the PSHE curriculum and learning is recorded in ‘Spiritual Scrapbooks’ to enable pupils to make links between lessons and the other special days and events that we recognise in school, such as our Harvest Festival, Christmas Carol Concert, Children in Need, Remembrance Day, Black History Month and International Women’s Day.
